Mexican pork export plummets by almost 20%

The null exports to China during the last month have had an impact on this negative variation, which reached shipments of 82,400 tonnes in these months. However, the top 5 destinations of pork meat produced in Mexico continue to be Japan (with almost 70% share), China, the US, South Korea, and Canada.

Revenue

The revenue has been 18.8% less for the pork protein exported, going from US$ 402.1 million to US$ 326.6 million.

Imports

Mexico imported 615,400 tonnes, which is 15.4% more. The United States is the main supplier, with a share of almost 86%; others are Canada, Spain, and Chile.

US exports rise

During the first 4 months of 2023, the US meat industry positioned 960,480 tons of pork abroad, derived from a year-on-year increase in the order of 14% in volume and 13% in revenues, up to US$ 2,620 million.

The United States Meat Exporters Federation (USMEF) highlighted that during this period, Mexico was its most important market, absorbing 350,270 tons, reflecting an increase of 10% compared to 2022.

The rise in demand registered specifically in April, when Mexico imported 80,214 tonnes of pork, valued at 149.6 million dollars, indicating respective growths of 9% and 7%.
