‘Development of immune competency in piglets’ is the theme of a Pig Progress webinar that will be held soon in cooperation with DSM Animal Nutrition and Health.

This webinar is the first in a series called ‘Shaping the future of piglet care’ and will take place on Thursday 31 March, brought to viewers live from Rotterdam, the Netherlands, at 3pm CET. The series of 3 webinars will touch on the topics, ‘prepare’, ‘protect’, and ‘supporting resilience’.

The first of 3 webinars focuses on the ‘preparation’ part of piglet care, which relates to the development of immune competency. In total, 3 speakers will address the audience.

Dr J. Jacques Matte

The webinar will kick off with a presentation by Dr J. Jacques Matte, honorary research scientist at Agriculture and Agri-Food, Canada. He will speak about piglets before and after weaning and the role of factors such as vitamins, healthy nutrition as well as robustness play in achieving optimal results.

Dr Megan Niederwerder, DVM

The role of the gut microbiome will then be highlighted in a presentation by Dr Megan Niederwerder, attached to Kansas State University in the United States. The gut microbiome has a role to play in the gut’s immune development, as she will demonstrate.

Dr William Matthys

Veterinarian Dr William Matthys is precision diagnostics service manager for DSM Animal Nutrition and Health. He will share his experience of early gut microbiome colonisation.
