Podcast: Pig house ventilation in winter and summer

The Real P3 podcast series is a recent initiative, where pork professionals from all over the world are interviewed about challenges and solutions in their day-to-day work. In the 13^th edition, Dr Casey Bradley speaks to Brian Strobel. He is responsible for Eastern US sales & service on behalf of Canada’s Jyga Technologies, known e.g. for the Gestal sow management systems. He is an agricultural engineer with a wide career path, including having pigs on his own. Ventilation is his specialty. He obtained his masters’ degree at Purdue University on “air quality inside farrowing rooms”.

The toughest time of the year to ventilate

Speaking of winter time in the northern hemisphere, Strobel calls it “the toughest time of the year to ventilate”. He mentions elements like moisture, condensation, respiratory challenges and delivery difficulties. He shares insights on how to ventilate optimally during the cold months.

Obviously, for listeners on the southern hemisphere, the opposite situation is also discussed, so how to adjust and ventilate optimally when temperatures start rising.
