Perstorp to host GastriVision 2022

Swedish feed additives producer Perstorp will host a 2-hour online event on 31 March at 10am (CET) with a focus on “a brighter future in gut wealth.” It will be held to both celebrate the company’s new extanded plant at the site in Waspik, the Netherlands, as well as new concepts and products. During the live round table event, various topics of interest will be discussed, and speakers include well-known international guests in the animal feed industry.

Speakers include Dr Richard Bailey of Aviagen; Prof Mingan Choct of the University of New England, USA; and Dr Francesc Molist, Schothorst Feed Research and columnist for Pig Progress. The event, for which registration is still possible, will be hosted by former All About Feed editor Emmy Koeleman.

Zinpro hosted 14th Feet First swine webinar

More webinar news, as minerals producer Zinpro hosted its 14th Feet First swine webinar on 22 March 2022. That event focused on optimising nutrition and management of hyper-prolific gilts and sows, before breeding, during gestation and throughout lactation.

Speakers included Thomas Bruun, senior specialist – nutrition and feeding with SEGES. He explained that gilt nutrition and management should focus on achieving the right weight and backfat at the time of first service in Denmark. Secondly, Dr Christof Rapp, swine nutritionist at Zinpro, explained what are key factors to achieve profitable and sustainable piglet production.

Ceva launches vaccine against neonatal diarrhoea

Animal health company Ceva has developed a vaccine containing 7 antigens against the major pathogens involved in 3 infectious diseases. The 4 E. coli fimbria antigens induce immunity against E. coli, while the Beta 1 toxoid antigen acts against the clinical picture of hemorrhagic necrotic enteritis caused by Clostridium perfringens Type C, and the alpha and beta-2 toxoid antigens.

The company has also extended its influenza vaccine portfolio, originally 1 vaccine covering the classical strains of H1N1, H1N2 and H3N2, with the addition of a second vaccine, Respiporc Flupan H1N1, against pandemic influenza in pigs.gens induce immunity against Clostridium perfringens type A.

DSM’s Sustell receives independent ISO certification

Royal DSM has achieved International Organisation Standard (ISO) lifecycle assessment assurance by DNV for its intelligent sustainability service, Sustell, which measures the environmental footprint of animal protein production.

50 million pigs in Topigs Norsvin’s breeding database

Pigbase, Topigs Norsvin’s breeding database, now contains data from more than 50 million breeding pigs. Pigbase links the company’s breeding farms, thus creating a single large population of breeding pigs. It also contains genomic data and data gathered from cut-out sessions, CT scans, and other measuring protocols.

Free E. coli testing to tackle post-weaning diarrhoea

To help pig producers plan appropriate strategies to manage post-weaning diarrhoea without zinc oxide, Elanco is offering free diagnostic testing to identify the types of pathogens and strains present on farm that can cause the disease.

Evonik strengthens methionine production hub in the US

Evonik will build a methyl mercaptan plant at its site in Mobile, AL, United States. Methyl mercaptan is an intermediate in the production of MetAmino (DL-methionine) and is currently sourced from third parties. The plant is scheduled to come on stream in the second half of 2024.
