IPVS 2022: Focus on biosecurity and innovation

The event was originally scheduled to take place mid-2020 but had to be postponed to 21-24 June, 2022, because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The theme will be “New perspectives for the pig industry: biosecurity, productivity, and innovation.”

Sessions at the IPVS Congress will meet in 4 different rooms simultaneously. Topics of discussion will include health (bacterial, viral and parasitic diseases), antimicrobial use; nutrition; reproduction/genetics; welfare; immunology and vaccinology; food safety and clinical cases.

Pre-congress as the IPVS congress

For the first time, the event also comes with a pre-congress, which is scheduled to take place on the morning and afternoon on June 21^st. A detailed programme of the pre-congress has already been released; this programme includes 6 pillars.

Basis of reproductive efficiency: From science to practice

Session 1 of the pre-congress will focus on reproduction. The invited speakers will include:

• Jennifer Patterson, University of Alberta, Canada;
• Johannes Kauffold, University of Leipzig, Germany;
• Olli Peltoniemi, University of Helsinki, Finland; and
• Chris Kuster, Kuster Research and Consulting, USA.

Use of antimicrobials and resistance in pigs

For session 2 are invited:

• Jeroen Dewulf, University of Ghent, Belgium;
• Maria Jose Hoztel, Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil;
• Locke Karriker, Iowa State University, USA;
• Ulf Magnusson, Swedish Agriculture Science, Sweden.

Immune response of the mucosa and vaccinology

Session 3 will feature:

• Eduardo Cobo, University of Calgary, Canada;
• Heather Wilson, University of Saskatoon, Canada; and
• Rafael Frandoloso, University of Passo Fundo, Brazil.

Immunology via nutrition

Session 4 will rely on the presence of:

• Siska Croubels, University of Ghent, Belgium;
• Paulo Henrique Campos, Federal University of Viçosa, Brazil; and
• John Pluske, Murdoch University, Australia

African Swine Fever: Innovation needed to control it

Session 5 will feature:

• Christian Gortazar, Castilla-La Mancha University, Spain; and
• Carmína Gallardo, Animal Health Research Center, Spain.

Session on agribusiness

Session 6 of the pre-congress will focus on agribusiness. This is the first time that this topic is included in an IPVS congress.
