Lessons learnt from a notifiable disease

From the diary of events of two List A (notifiable) disease outbreaks within Europe, the animal destruction and financial consequences is shown to reach catastrophic levels. We spoke to Dr. Armin Elbers, an epidemiologist working for the Animal Health Service in the Netherlands, who was involved in the control strategies implemented during the Dutch classical swine fever (CSF) epidemic, to find out his views on preventing these tragic episodes.
